iCare.Support

RUNNER UP TECH SOLUTION

DTK^2

Promoting community connectivity through a centralised service in accessibility and mental health support.

Our solution aims to bridge the gap between social need and social opportunity, increase confidence in potentially new social spaces, and encourage inclusion with community connection.

RISING STAR AWARD

Friyo

This project is inspired by a real-life experience of an older person who encountered challenges with managing her own medications.

The device has an embedded cartridge which contains medications for AM or PM (depends on the medications schedule). The device has a reminder feature which will alert the user when it's time to take the medication. The user then swipes the device to dispense the medications.

Why Ageing in Place?

WHY AGEING IN PLACE?

The release of Australia’s final report from the Royal Commission into Aged Care revealed poor and deteriorating living standards for many in residential aged care homes as well as extended wait times for those living at home and reliant upon Home Care support. A major finding from the report showed that the majority of people want to remain at home rather than moving into an aged care facility.

When we support people to age in place we are helping our ageing population to remain independent, in control and connected with their community. Additionally, the cost of service per person is significantly lower when people can stay in their own home, alleviating the financial burden from governments.

Ageing at home offers significant advantages to our ageing community and our society, however there are significant barriers to overcome on the way.

AGEING IN PLACE CHALLENGES

- Community connectivity: reduce and prevent social

isolation and loneliness

- Tech-enabled home: technology at home which

promotes independence in daily tasks and reduces

risks to living safely at home

- Care at home: support for episodic or ongoing care

for independent and dignified ageing at home
