DISASTER RESILIENCE HACK 2019
DISASTER RESILIENCE HACK 2019
DISASTER MASTER
Disaster Master is a mobile based app that encompasses mini games based on real disaster situations. The game informs users on how to prevent, prepare, respond and recover from a disaster through a fun engaging approach. The game also includes opportunities to progress, join local teams and compete with others. In addition, this tool has the potential to strengthen the sense of community through inter-district competitions.
U-HELP
U-Help is a platform designed to allow donors to easily support those in need affected by disasters by accessing our online web application. By utilising Blockchain technology, the process of donating to a charity becomes more transparent, with every transaction able to be viewed and tracked as a ledger. Donors can be assured that their money is being used to make a positive impact in helping people re-build their lives following the devastation of natural disasters.
COMMUNITY POWER
Community Power coordinate wind energy with other energy sources that are vulnerable in their own ways (solar panel may crack/shattered, batteries run out quick, diesel generators need fuel and fuel is difficult to transport and store), and via the information sharing technology, utilise wind power to improve the communities’ disaster resilience ability. On the platform we are creating, the community gets help and also has the opportunity to help.
WHY DISASTER RESILIENCE?
Disasters often follow natural hazards and their severity depends on how much impact a hazard has on society and the environment.
The scale impact in turn depends on the choices we make for our lives and for our environment. These choices relate to how we grow our food, where and how we build our homes, what kind of government we have, how our financial system works and even what we teach in schools. Each decision and action makes us more vulnerable to disasters - or more resilient to them.
Disaster resilience is the concept and practice of reducing risks through systematic efforts to analyse and reduce the causal factors of disasters. Whether natural or societal, disasters are severe and our global community’s need for resilience can lead the world to act on this global issue.
DISASTER RESILIENCE CHALLENGES
- Enhancing city and community resilience frameworks (improving city and community preparedness)
- Reducing critical infrastructure disruptions
- Improving information management and sharing
